ProStar Computers handles east Madison County as a small concierge practice — fewer clients, deeper relationships, and services that are priced by the job rather than sold as a catalog. The seven core categories below cover almost every call we take.
1. Data Recovery From Damaged or Failing Drives
Often the most valuable call we take: a drive that is failing but still readable, or one that has already died but the data matters. We image first on anything mechanical, attempt logical recovery where it is possible, and refer to clean-room specialists when a physical recovery is the right call. Quote before anything else.
2. Business IT Support and Maintenance
Small-office IT handled on a first-name basis. Workstation support, patch management, shared-device fixes, network audits, and the kind of ongoing relationship where we answer the phone on the second ring. Monthly retainers available.
3. Slow Computer Repair and Speed Optimization
Performance diagnostics that identify the actual cause. Four usual suspects — failing drive, thermal throttle, bloated Windows install, memory pressure — diagnosed and quoted individually rather than bundled into a generic tune-up product.
4. Virus and Malware Removal
Full cleanup of infected systems, plus credential audits on any accounts the machine touched. Browser hijackers, fake tech-support popups, adware chains, and the occasional real infection treated with the care each actually needs.
5. Hard Drive Replacement and Upgrades
Old mechanical drives replaced with SSDs, data cloned when the original drive still reads cleanly, fresh installs documented when it does not. RAM upgrades bundled in when the machine has room for the extra.
6. Network Troubleshooting and Connectivity Issues
Home and small-office networks handled end to end. Router, access-point, mesh, and wiring problems diagnosed methodically rather than swapped out randomly. Includes the VPN-won’t-stay-up category that is almost never the laptop’s fault.
7. Laptop LCD Replacement (restricted list — phone first with the model tag)
We take laptop screen work on a vetted list of models we stock or can source panels for without an extended wait. Before you drop the unit off, call with the make, model, and year from the bottom sticker. Two minutes on the phone tells you whether we can handle it quickly or whether a different shop would serve you better.
On Peripheral Setup
Device onboarding is part of any concierge service visit — a new printer mapped during a workstation refresh, a tablet signed in during a network tune-up, an accessory paired during a home-office visit. Standalone peripheral-only calls (“come plug in this printer”) are not our primary work.
